Lip Sync

This project allowed me to really express myself through my work combining passions and career. I have created this animation as part of a lip sync project for advanced 2D however it is also a test for my final project as the main "animal" in it will be the whale.

If you have seen The Treehouse blog then you will be aware that the two brothers burst out of the treehouse riding this wale in its colour form.

Please click on the video below to see my short animation.

Pixillation Project (group Project)
Jamie Price, Loz Hawnt, Josh Campbell

This project was a fun animation that we produced, where we used ourselves as the characters in the film. This technique is similar to stop motion but with the use of people as well as other objects in the film.

Click the below link to view the video.

Please note that this was a group project, Acting Loz Hawnt, Filming, props etc. Josh Campbell and Jamie Price.

Animation Tests for Final Major Project And Character Interaction Tests/Animatics
These are the initial tests that will be used in my final project.

Bird Flyby Test
Original Outline no clean up.
I used this rough outline to get an idea of how my bird was going to fly past the screen to open the animation.

Bird test clean up and colour application.
The next video shows the same movement of the bird in its cleaned coloured form. This will then have blur applied to it to give it a realistic movement past the camera as it flies into shot.

Final Render of Bird Fly in placed into opening sequence.

Stand Up Scene Painting Interaction Animatic

Whale Trail Test

These blobs will be used in my animation to trail off of my colour whale.

Concept Art

Concept art is key to all animations, we do it to get our ideas down on paper so we can picture what the eventual production will look like/get a sense of the style of the animation.
Below you will be able to find my concept work for my major project ( The Treehouse ) as well as various other studies to help improve my concept skills, you should hopefully be able to see the progression in my technique through my work.

We had a professional concept artist who came and taught us techniques and ways to quickly get your ideas down, I did find this very challenging as i'm quite a tight and neat artist so it was great to find out where my faults are and what I need to do to improve on them. Please click the first image and scroll through to see the full size image.

Class Exercises:

Master Study:
The aim of this task is to produce very rough copy of an original painting produced by one of the masters of art, below you will be able to see the comparison between my attempt and the original. The key aim of the project is to see how your eye can read colour and how accurate you can get the colours in you replacer. The image to the left is my attempt and the original is on the right.

From this first attempt I found that although my colours were very similar to the original I was slightly darker with the colours that I chose as you can see at the bottom of the document, Mine being (A) and original being (B)

In my second attempt it was apparent that some of the colours that I was using were slightly darker than that of the original. The same can be seen in my third attempt below.

My final study although not as detailed as the previous images the colours were more accurate than all of my previous attempts.

Concept art for my final project:
Below are some concepts that I produced to help with the production of my final project, you will also be able to see these concepts plus more on my The Treehouse page at the top of this blog.

Character thumbnail and Acting Exercise

The aim of this exercise was to put our characters for our final major project into different poses and positions to see how the form could be altered to get different emotions and characteristics across to the viewer. I can use these positions as reference in my final animation.

Now that you have seen my work for this topic, if you follow this link below you will be able to see some of the completed animations from this blog.
